Amanda Tipney

My name is Amanda Tipney and I was born in Montreal, Canada to a British father and French Canadian mother. I grew up in a small French village an hour from the city. I've always loved art, whether appreciating the works of others or expressing myself through it. It's been a love of mine since I was little. Surprisingly, I almost failed art class several times as I grew up. The problem wasn't that I was not doing adequate work, but that I would never give it in! I was a bit of a perfectionist and a procrastinator. My homework was either not good enough, in my own critical mind, to give in or simply not finished. This is still a problem I face today. I often want to throw my canvas out of the window during the process. People say that painting is soothing and I agree that it can be, but it can also be maddening at times. However, I have learnt that if I persist through those difficult moments when all seems to be getting worse and not better, eventually things start looking up again. I guess that's a good lesson to learn in life in general.
I continued my education at Dawson College in Creative Arts. After graduating, I decided to live in Guatemala for a few months to do volunteer work, thus establishing the main drive in my life up to today. Through the years I've been focused primarily on volunteer and community work, within Canada and abroad. I love people and that often comes out in my art. Whether I'm painting on a literal canvas what appeals to me and evokes my emotions or whether I'm coloring my own mind and heart with memorable life experiences, I hope to contribute my own little part of "ART" to this world. Because as they say "Earth" without "art" is simply "Eh" and none of us want that. ;)
