Christine Allan

Picture
"I create to make a statement, about the world or about emotions. I simply express what I think and feel, never sure what the end result will be. I express what is in my head as a way to get out of my head. I am inspired by art hist ory and colour. Creating is calming for me and my hope is that the viewer feels the same”

Canadian artist Christine A. Allan, originally from the prairie province of Manitoba, moved to the West Coast of Canada in the 60's. She has lived in a number of small communities in British Columbia, including a remote Native Community on the West Coast of Canada. Christine's British and Canadian First Nations roots have had a significant impact on her life and her work. Although she had used art to cope with an unstable life growing up, her later studies in Archaeology, Art History, and Fine Art led her to explore many forms of creative expression. Her lightly textured mixed media paintings, demonstrate her interest in colour and how the use of iridescent paint reflects light. Christine has won awards for her art including an Award of Merit for her use of sfumato at the Chianciano Biennale in 2013. Christine has been an exhibiting artist for over 15 years, with her artworks held in private collections worldwide, including an environmentally inspired piece donated to the p rivate collection of Leonardo DiCaprio. She regularly donates from sales of her work to the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which is dedicated to protecting biodiversity, ocean conservation, wildlands conservation and climate change.
