Jamal de Jong was born in Edmonton, Alberta and raised in Nova Scotia.

He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing from Concordia University in Montreal, 2008, where he is currently based. He has exhibited internationally in Miami, Florida and Los Angeles, California, as well as Melbourne, Australia.
Jamal's intention as a painter is to explore the curiosity about sound, to share the experience of hearing impairment in hopes of a common understanding, and build awareness of the importance of deafness in our daily lives.
To feel vibrations is a way to hear and look out for danger, a survivor tool. If you are ever near a waterfall, you can feel water vibrating sounds splashing towards the bottom of the fall against the rocks, or the river racing against currents' flow. They are sounds of nature that you can feel from every direction of the universe, from the loudest to the softest touch.
