Mario di Polo

Mario Di Polo was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1940. He is now permanent resident of Canada and lives in Montreal. He began his studies in painting with Rene Francois, Professor of the École des Beaux Arts, Paris, in 1954.
Di Polo developed a sense for space and color that motivated him to study Art and Arquitecture at the Central University in Caracas. In 1972 he pursued graduate studies in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Sussex, England.
Since early in his career, Di Polo was interested in the surrealism of objects and the construction of the space. His first creations were paper collage and different types of ensembles made with symbolic objects and neon. In recent works, he investigated the tridimensional concept of space and color, with the help of photography to grasp the reality of everyday life as a primary source of the subjects involved in the mixed media result. various layers of acetate printed with a selection of photos subjects are treated with acrylic paint and assembled in aluminum frames. The results is a tridimensional view of a snapshot of life and the poetry of space.
