Michael Sampson

Picture
Born in Boston, MA in 1969, Michael Sampson grew up in Rockport, MA. Sampson attended Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA where he received his B.F.A in 1993. After graduation Mike rented a studio in Salem, MA with classmates from Montserrat where they exhibited their work in open studios. While in Salem, Mike frequently visited the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

In 1998 he moved to Ithaca, NY where he took a job as a Registrar and curatorial Assistant at the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira, NY. Learning the curatorial side of museum and gallery work Michael mounted shows, hung works and looked after the permanent and temporary collections at the museum.

In late 1998, Mike traveled with his family to Spain, Italy, France, and Portugal. He saw all the great museums in Madrid, Barcelona, Venice, Rome, Paris, and Lisbon. An experience that still is a source of inspiration in his work today.

Mike has continued to paint every day through the years and now hopes to also be able to assist other artists in selling and showing their work.
