Nicolas Novac was fascinated by theater since his youngest age

Picture
My paintings are an expression of pendulum swings back and forth in time. The characters are based on everyday reality but the overall experience is more like a dream. Feelings of beauty and devotion, of blessing and sadness, of lust and transcendence are invoked as an eternal searching of ourselves. Stories are created by combining seemingly disparate compositional elements. The solidity and definition of mechanisms is undermined by the fragility and vagueness of the ink drawings.

I was fascinated by theater since my youngest age. In theater reality and fantasy blend together and the characters evolve in a magical manner. I am trying to capture this spirit that reigns over their souls, and expose it on canvas. With the risk of repeating someone words I will say - life is an amazing scene and we are all actors playing our little part in this never-ending fantasy.

In my opinion Art has a huge responsibility and cannot stand outside society. It transcends ourselves and echoes the history. Art is union among people, joining them together in the same feelings. Art for the sake of art is an outdated concept surpassed a long time ago. I believe the artist is the voice of his generation, and his vision of the world is essential.

I work with a variety of mediums such as charcoal, pastel, ink, watercolor, acrylic, aluminum and stained glass paint. I like all the mediums, and it is not a question of preference but I favor acrylic for its versatile character. It adheres to so many surfaces, from traditional canvas to glass and aluminum. The drying time is great, it is not yellowing and most important, is not toxic.

Montreal influenced profoundly my style. We are haunted by our past, by emotions and places we have been before, but essentially we express ourselves in the society we live in.

I find myself in a continuum of unveiling the unknown in the world around. As artist I need to think what the next step is. Even if it sounds pragmatic, I will probably say that I am planning to participate in a couple of International art competitions in Europe as well as North America
