Her works as a painter mainly focuses on mandalas. Mandala is a Sanskrit word meaning circle. Although their perfect geometric patterns have been used throughout history by many civilizations they are more popular among hindu and buddhist priests and monks. They can be found mainly in monasteries, temples and churches. They are considered to have very powerful effects on the mind and believed to make a space sacred. They have also been used by art therapists to help patients centre themselves emotionally and mentally. Carl Gustav Jung discovered their powerful healing powers during the war, where he himself had to go through those depressing times. He would later use them with his patients.
Nishma is inspired by the simplicity and philosophy behind mandalas. Their patterns gives a feeling of harmony and tranquility. From the ancient wisdoms, she takes it a step further. She infuses designs and patterns from allover the world, which is a reflection of how our world today is mixing more so than ever before and how beautiful diversity is. Her vibrant mandalas are created with a high level of precision. She uses mainly acrylics and sometimes ventures with mix media. She explores many different techniques which gives each and every painting a life if its own.
