Ramona Organ is a self-taught artist whose art is a reflection of herself and her experiences.

She is a relative newcomer to artistic endeavors having begun with photography in 2008 after her introduction at the School of Photographic Arts of Ottawa. This passion for artistic photography spilled over into abstract painting as a complimentary pursuit. With the exception of the photography courses, she is an entirely self-taught artist.
Her paintings are usually acrylics on canvas and can incorporate a variety of materials to provide texture, depth and effects. She has sold many of these works privately.
Artist Statement
I am a self-taught artist whose art is a reflection of myself and my experiences. Principally in the abstract, I work to express the flow I feel from the world around me, to explore my emotions and experiences. I don’t stick to one particular style of abstract, rather I utilize many different styles and mediums. My art engages different colors and textures as I strive to express my feelings.
When painting, I use acrylics working generally pretty quickly as the painting seems to flow from the brush (knife, fingers etc) to the canvas. I very often use other mediums to create texture in advance of actually applying paint and here again it is more flow than any deliberate plan. Sometimes I have a concept but how I see the work initially rarely ends up that way and I have been known to radically change the path of a work part way through.
I paint not to impress but to express. I find it cathartic and an outlet for all that is in me. I like what other people see in my work, especially when it is something I didn’t see myself or the view point is completely dissimilar.
My work is influenced by the world I grew up in and the people I have known. I am a Cape Breton girl at heart and have spent a lot of time in the military. I think both influence me if in very different and unique ways. I am not the person I was and that has allowed my art to develop and emerge as it never has before.
