Richard Warren Buckley's art is the product of decades of releasing, of letting things go

A former Department Chair at the New England School of Art, he also served on the faculty at the University of New Hampshire teaching in a program he helped design and administer. In prior years he has held titles of V.P. Creative Director in ad agencies in both Boston and NYC.Over the years his paintings have evolved from representational oils on canvas to fluid minimalistic acrylics on canvas and mixed media works that he describes as “snapshots of my soul.”
Buckley's paintings have been exhibited in the Worcester Museum of Fine Arts, the Berkshire Museum of Art and in Boston's John F. Kennedy Building. His work has been featured on the NBC Today Show and been a subject of note in the New York Times, Graphic Design USA, Art in America, the Christian Science Monitor and the Boston Globe. In recent months his work has been curated into numerous prestigious exhibits that have included Boston Biennial 4, SCOPE Miami Beach and “Unhinged” at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition, World Wide Art Los Angeles, ArtVenice Biennale 3, and two recent Conception/Tribeca exhibits.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
Over the past 40 years my work has evolved from representational oils on canvas to a minimalist technique utilizing primarily flowing black strokes and touches of color on a white background with occasional mixed media add-ons. The add-on found on my “Welcome Home” piece combines two of my own captures with two NASA images.
My current art is the product of decades of releasing, of letting things go as I attempt to transcended intellect, education, and the expectations of others. I have put those aside. I even put down my brushes; my art is oft created with my hands rather than brushes. I feel that each of these works is a snapshot of my consciousness at the time it was created.
As the years have passed I found that meditation and its resulting spiritual connection prior to beginning a piece is the key to the success of my works; without it they fail.
