Ryan Crawley's work shows the expressive qualities of color and brush strokes

Ryan Crawley is an artist from the midwest. The midwest provided much inspiration for him as a young boy. Intrigued by the lines and color of the buildings his work slowly gained a certain style. After graduating from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI he continued this love of line and color. He currently resides in Folcroft, Pa.
The purpose of my work is to show the expressive qualities of color and brush strokes. From this the idea of using cityscapes formed. These cities aren’t renditions of any one city, but are representational of all cities. The amount of energy that a city produces, exudes, and disperses has always fascinated me.
Coming from a city that was located in between two larger cities, it has always just been a small trip to get that excitement. The cities in which I talk about are Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL. Both of these being larger cities, each still had their own personalities that could not be copied by another location. From these cities is where I get the different strokes of the brush that I use, and the colors that I choose for my fictional paintings.
With the stylized urban paintings came a completely stylized portrait series. Through out my work there is continuity between the style and intensity of colors. Realizing that the idea of cityscapes transformed my idea of line, color, and shape has continued to be ever present in my current artwork.
