Tabitha Aaron

Picture
Tabitha Benedict Aaron born in upstate New York, is a painter originally trained in a representational style but has recently developed an appreciation for the more modern work of Abstract Expressionism. Tabitha subjectively approaches her paintings, exploring intuition, techniques, materials and color.

Inspired by the Language Of Abstraction course with Karen Roehl and the process of Gerhard Richter’s abstract work of scraping colors across large canvases Tabitha’s paintings have developed their own unique sense of style and depth.

“I begin with a blank canvas and respond with spontaneity, I let go of all expectations. My technique is about freedom of expression, believing in the unexpected and letting the painting evolve naturally. I use whatever I can get my hands on sponges, trowels, palette knives, textured mediums, oils, acrylics, rags, fingers, and brushes to create a compelling piece of art. Applying multiple layers is the key element to my painting, this allows for a more interesting, deep and complex creation in the end. When you move out of your own way there is room for the unexpected, unique compositions, color combinations and subject matter to emerge organically from the canvas. I begin with chaos and respond with intention.”

“My color palette is mainly made up of earth tones, when combined with the process of scraping texture and paint across the canvas and letting all things melt and meld together naturally a unique form begins to take place. This is where I began to see a resemblance in earth formations in my work. I have started to look a little closer at the color combinations and designs found in the earth such as rocks, minerals, shells and fossils. Looking beneath the surface allows a play between realism and abstraction.”

“I have always had an attachment to painting wildlife. My very first pastel painting of a groundhog in second grade won a first place ribbon in the school art show. I was encouraged by my art teacher to continue and chose wildlife as most of my subject matter throughout high school and college. Recently after taking my first Language of Abstraction course at the Denver Students Arts League I have become very involved in abstract expressionism, which has opened up many new doors. Now when I am painting a wildlife piece I apply the same principles that I have learned through the language of abstraction and let the wildlife emerge naturally from the background”.

“I am in the process of following my deepest calling as a full time Fine Art Painter. I want to create paintings for pure visual pleasure without having to extract “meaning” from a given work. I want the audience to appreciate “artistry” by studying abstract forms for their own sake.”
