John Pohl

Picture
John Pohl is an artist and writer in Montreal.

He is a painter and a printmaker who has studied art at the University of Regina and Concordia University and has exhibited his work in rental galleries. Pohl writes a weekly column about the Montreal art scene for the Gazette newspaper, where he was previously an editor. His art writing has also appeared on  Canadianart.ca and in Décover magazine.  He has observed that the most successful artists are ambitious, work hard and pursue their visions without compromise. Dedication and perseverance are necessary for success, but so is the continuing study of the art of the past and present. The best artists work in the realm of ideas, and they are able to translate their intellectual responses and gut instincts into objects with a beauty that is intrinsic to the care and skill with which they are made.

Claudio D'Angelo - Professional Artist

CLAUDIO D'ANGELO was born in Montreal in 1956. A childhood passion for drawing led him to study commercial art and subsequently work for several years as an illustrator/designer in an ad agency. An important painting commission for Cast Shipping Ltd. in 1980 permitted him to leave advertising and devote his time fully to painting.

Claudio's work is represented in numerous private and corporate collections in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. As well, his commissioned images have appeared on coins for the Royal Canadian Mint, on several conservation stamps for the Fondation de la Faune du Québec and as limited edition prints for Ducks Unlimited. His work has been the subject of several magazine articles and has been showcased in books such as L'Odyssée du Garrot d'Islande en Amérique (André Dion, 2009), L’Âme des Oiseaux (Éditions Henri Rivard, 2005), The Best of Wildlife Art (North Light Books, 1997) and From the Wild (Summerhill Press, 1986).  Visit Claudio's website for more information: www.claudiodangelo.com
